Upgrading A Server

I was in #CentOS channel and talked one nice guy named ignacio. I asked regarding my planned upgrade of one my server (Proxy).

To summed up our conversation he adviced me to:

  • Backup /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, and /etc/groups
  • Create the users by hand on the new system
  • Replace the password strings in /etc/shadow
  • Neat!
